Ramil Mercado is a graduate student at American University’s School of International Service, working within the Comparative and Regional Studies Program. Ramil primarily focuses on the role of ASEAN in the Indo-Pacific Framework, and the national security initiatives of Maritime Southeast Asian nations. In particular, he focuses on Timor-Leste, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Aside the work that he has done for the ASEAN Studies Initiative, Ramil is also a Senator for the Politics, Governance and Economics (PGE) Program for the Graduate Student Council. He has previously worked with the East-West Center in Washington, the Southeast Asia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and is currently interning with the Office of Foreign Missions at the Department of State.
Ramil speaks English, Indonesian, Tagalog, Portuguese and Spanish.
