Each year, the ASEAN and Indo-Pacific Studies Initiative (AIPSI) welcomesa Fulbright Visiting Scholar to contribute to our research, teaching, and public engagement activities. Through lectures, seminars, and collaborative projects, the Visiting Scholar brings fresh perspectives and expertise that enrich our academic community and deepen our understanding of critical issues shaping the ASEAN and Indo-Pacific region.
Dr. Nguyen Hong Hai

About
Dr Nguyen Hong Hai was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar in the School of
International Service at American University (2024-2025). He is a political scientist and an experienced lecturer/researcher in politics and international relations.
Before VinUniversity, Dr Nguyen held various Positions in Vietnam and Australia, including senior lecturer, international development manager, honorary research fellow, and adjunct/visiting senior lecturer at Hanoi University, Thai Nguyen University, James Cook University, the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, and the University of Sunshine Coast.
He has published extensively on Southeast Asian, Asian, and Indo-Pacific politics and international relations.
He often appears in peer-reviewed academic and international forums like East Asia Forum, the Diplomat, and the Strategist, sharing insights on Vietnam’s politics and foreign relations, regional politics, and international relations.
Dr Nguyen is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Sunshine Coast’s Centre for International Development, an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology’s School of Social Justice, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Australia-Vietnam Policy Institute. He serves on several editorial boards of Vietnamese and international journals. In 2013, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Thai Nguyen University, Vietnam.

Shofwan al Banna Choiruzzad

About
Professor Shofwan Choiruzzad was the ASEAN Studies Initiative visiting scholar from February 1st to May 31st, 2022, attending through the US-ASEAN Fulbright Scholar Grant. During his time with ASI, Professor Choiruzzad presented “Ambiguities of ASEAN Centrality: What it Means for US-ASEAN Relations”, on June 22nd, 2022.
Professor Choiruzzad serves as the Manager of Research, Publication, and Social Services for the
Professor Choiruzzad has a PhD in International Relations and Affairs from Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan.
