How can AU Connects be a resource for Students?
Facilitators will custom design a conversation for your student organization, team, or class to:
- Promote open conversations about racial/ethnic diversity
- Create a space for members to share their stories and build trust
- Develop skills in awareness-raising, self-exploration, and allyship
- Debrief a race-related incident
- Explore race-related topics, including microaggressions, structural racism, and implicit bias through sharing lived experiences
The best part was “Hearing my peers speak out about personal experiences that I have never had to experience myself.”
“I appreciated the active listening activity because just listening and asking questions allowed me to take a step back and genuinely listen to the story/perspective being shared.”
“The facilitators made the conversation very engaging and interactive.”
Examples of conversations with AU Connects:
- An undergraduate class exploring how to position themselves in conversations of race/inequality and talk about ways to acknowledge and address microaggressions.
- An AU theater group that wanted to create a space for cast and crew to honesty and meaningfully talk to each other about their own identities.
