Update: This site includes my work throughout university. I’ve since continued to improve my writing skills as I now create in the field of strategic communications. Enjoy the mind of my younger days.
As a first-year college student straight out of high school, almost all of my writing experiences have been focused on academic school classes and assignments. Although we explored different texts, types of writing, and more throughout the various courses I’ve taken, I don’t often have the opportunity to write “freely”. I remember my English teachers always telling us about how we want to avoid writing in first-person and “I” statements in our writing because it is unprofessional for essays and such. However, following those instructions for one assignment after another for so long kind of made me forget that there is a whole other world of writing that isn’t just made up of academic analytical essays or book reports. When choosing to take this writing course, “Representing Thought”, I figured it would be a great way for me to explore writing in a new light. I wanted to explore the side of writing that is more about thought, experience, and sharing stories rather than the side of writing that is academic essays. Throughout this writing course, we learned about blogging, storytelling, different writing techniques to express thought efficiently, ways to connect with the audience, and much more. My goals for this course were to learn and attempt new writing techniques, improve on my writing weaknesses, explore the purposes of writing, and to figure out the best way to express my own thoughts and opinions. This blog is a culmination of the things I learned and explored throughout this writing course from my aspirations as a writer to reflecting on various texts and authors. I hope to convey the things I learned and explored through this blog!
