Prose v. Poetry

I’ve had very few experiences with writing and reading poetry, therefore, I’ve never been able to appreciate poetry for what it is. Poetry is an art and form of expression much like writing in prose, however, poetry has its differences from prose that makes it unique. To me, poetry holds a certain vagueness that allows the reader to really reflect and think on their own and without the words handing the meaning to them directly. Poetry also depends heavily on word choice; there are be certain rules and an expected structure that better works when the most meaningful words are chosen for it. This section of my blog presents the differences between prose and poetry, as well as my personal take and opinion on them both in comparison. Poetry is something that I now see in a new light and while prose is more in my comfort zone, I am not opposed to exploring more poetry to find its role in my mind.
