School of Public Affairs (SPA) Social Action Project
In the SPA Leadership Program, I am currently researching the environmental impacts of the fashion industry. As one of the largest contributors to the degradation of the environment, I have found that regulation of companies in the industry is imperative for the wellbeing of the planet. In April of 2020 I will be implementing a project geared toward this issue in response to the research of policies and practices of fashion companies and textile factories.
SPA Leadership Program Teaching Assistant
In hopes of giving back to the Leadership Program, I was selected as a Teaching Assistant for the first year class of the program. I guide students through their own social action project and research this year. Because of my environmental background and passion, I am leading the Environment and Sustainability issue group of students. I provide instruction as they work on their project that is centered around consumerism and chemical impact of products on the environment. I work with faculty and six other TAs to ensure the first year experience is positive and their project is successful.
JUST Water
In high school, I was a part of a movement to make my school district more sustainable and to decrease waste. Previously, schools across the district sold plastic, bottled water as one of the few drink options. Myself and my peers began a campaign to bring JUST water bottles to our district to replace the plastic ones. The campaign successfully replaced the vending machines and cafeterias with thousands of JUST bottles, a more environmentally friendly alternative to plastic bottles.
