This is a bridge that I came across while walking through Rock Creek Park. The bridge leads from one side of the creek that is predominantly grass and trails, to the other side of the creek that has the Rock Creek Parkway. This bridge is used by people that are running, biking, or walking to get to either side of Rock Creek. When I first saw this bridge I didn’t really think anything of it besides, “oh look, a bridge over the creek,” however, as I thought about it more, I realized how strange it was that the bridge would lead to a path that was directly next to an extremely busy road. To me, this just seemed very unsafe. The path that parallels the parkway is only a few feet from the side of the road, and there is no median or anything separating the road from the pathway. I can understand why the parks service would want to have a bridge over the creek, but I couldn’t help but think about children running around the park and going over the bridge and ending up next to the parkway. Even having adults running or biking next to the parkway can be dangerous because if something happens and the individual falls over, he/she will most likely fall into the street, which can cause serious accidents.
