My name is Claire Mills and I am a second year student in the School of International Service at American University, majoring in International Studies and minoring in Arabic. Within my major, I am completing concentrations in Environmental Sustainability and Justice, Ethics, and Human Rights, and I am particularly interested in the intersections of these issues. I am a member of the AU Honors program and the Olson Scholars program, a specialized research curriculum designed for second year students in the School of International Service.
As part of the Olson Scholar’s program, my research will focus specifically on environmental policymaking related to climate change, particularly within the United States. What are the current representations of climate change in the United States? How does policymaking on climate change happen and why have the current policies prevailed? And finally, how do the discourses on climate change lead to policy outcomes?
I am excited to explore these questions as I complete my research as an Olson Scholar.
