My name is Claire Mills and I am a second year student in the School of International Service at American University, majoring in International Studies and double minoring in Arabic and Environmental Science. At AU, I am a member of the AU Honors program, a program centered around developing interdisciplinary approaches to modern challenges, and the Olson Scholars program, a specialized research curriculum designed for second year students in the School of International Service.
My academic interests include peace building, environmental sustainability and climate change, and development. As part of the Olson Scholar’s program, my research will focus specifically on environmental policymaking related to climate change, particularly within the United States. What are the current conceptualizations of climate change in the United States? How does framing of environmental issues impact policymaking? Can framing explain the variation in funding allocations to environmental issues relating to climate change?
I am excited to explore these questions as I complete my research as an Olson Scholar.
