But there is one factor that some scholars and researchers have come to believe is the biggest reason behind crime; the amount committed and who is responsible for committing them. A criminal’s Intelligence is the reason behind crime. The idea of studying a person’s mind in association to crime first appeared in the early 1900’s with the notion that criminal offenders were both feeble minded and mentally deficient. It wasn’t until the mid-1970’s that a person’s Intelligence Quotient could be considered a probable cause in the recent increase of crime rates. The problem with this idea is that many researchers believe and hold account to the notion that those who have a low IQ score are more likely to commit a crime than people who have a higher IQ. Scholars and researchers when deciding this notion fail to consider one little thing that matters. They do not take into consideration a person’s psychological state when determining their IQ. How can a person’s Intelligence Quotient be a factor alone when you must take in account their mental stability? When it comes to linking crime with IQ, a person’s level of intelligence is not the main factor in how much crime is committed and who commits it.

Crime and IQ Introduction When we think of crime we are quick to automatically associate it with biological factors such as race, gender, or hereditary backgrounds and physical factors like socioeconomic status. I would like to become a prosecutor working to make sure that before delinquents face a court room, something else can be done to help keep them out of the system. Maintaining justice and ensuring those who are innocent does not just happen with the defense attorney but starts with prosecutors actually taking a step back and working for the people.

I am studying Justice and Law with a concentration in criminal justice at American University in Washington, DC. Along with my bachelor’s degree I am working towards a minor in Japanese language, as well as certificates in the School of Public Affairs Leadership program and the Women and Politics Institute: Politics, Policy, and Leadership program.
