I’ve gained valuable skills from some rewarding internships that I hope to apply during my time at veterinarian school and my career as a veterinarian. Check out some of my internships below!
Children’s National Medical Center
At children’s national, I interned under the supervision of PI Dr. Robert Freishtat on the AsthMaP2 Project, where I recruited and tested patients to participate in a long term study aimed at identifying the genetic, environmental and social risk factors associated with childhood asthma in inner city children.
Greenlawn Animal Hospital
During my time interning, I assisted the veterinarian (Dr. Garretson) and veterinary technician during treatment and surgery of small animal patients, including conducting wellness exams, drawing blood, spayed / neuters, monitoring anesthesia, taking x-rays, growth removals, filling prescriptions, and euthanasia.
Huntington Animal Hospital
In this animal hospital, under the supervision of Dr. Jeff Kramer, I learned how to administer lab tests and interpret lab results. I also maintained and stocked exam rooms in addition to assisted with office management and front office operations, including client communications, patient scheduling, and ordering medical supplies. I became skilled in ProMed Infinity software.
Washington Animal Rescue League -Medical Center
While at WARL, I provided small animal handling during medical procedures / appointments. I also restocked and prepared operating rooms, cleaned and sterilized surgical tools in addition to monitored / accompanied animals post-surgery. Importantly, I learned how to navigate a large hospital setting with numerous veterinarians, technicians and assistants.
