Throughout its 100-year history, Carnegie Corporation of New York has supported a host of institutions, causes, and organizations, as well as individual scholars. Some celebrated beneficiaries include Gunnar Myrdal, whose 1944 publication, An American Dilemma, influenced race relations here and abroad, and helped shape the Brown v. Board of Education decision ending school segregation. In the 1960s and 1970s the Corporation funded the early works of scholars Robert Caro, Martin Feldstein, and Henry Kissinger and, beginning in 2000, operated a program that awarded 168 fellowships in a range of subjects, including more than 100 awards to scholars of Islam and the Muslim world. Today, as our democracy and the international order face mounting threats, the Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program provides support for an outstanding cadre of intellectuals whose research addresses urgent contemporary issues from fresh perspectives.
