I am a current undergraduate student at American University majoring in Law and Society and in an accelerated 3 year program for pre-law. I grew up in Queens, NY but then moved to the small town of Commack, New York where I attended Commack High School. From there, I received the International Baccalaureate diploma and the Advanced New York State Regents diploma . Since graduating high school, I have been working for the law firm of Smith Carroad Levy and Wan as a clerical assistant. There, I interacted with clients by answering phones, processed legal paperwork, and often assisted the attorneys. Prior to working at the law firm, I created my own tutoring business in which I tutored students from 6-10th grade in core subjects of math, science, history as well as test preparation. While in high school, I was highly involved in different clubs as well as community service. I was the president of both my Mock Trial team as well as the National Business Honor Society. I was a member of various other organizations such as Spanish Honor Society, English Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Future Business Leaders of America. I also partook in various business competitions. Two years ago, I had earned 1st place in my local business competition in the human resources category. This past year, I had earned first place in Suffolk County for Impromptu speaking and moved onto competing in the State FBLA Competition in both Impromptu speaking and Hospitality Services. Out of over 600 competitors, I had made it to the finals for Impromptu speaking and placed 2nd with my team in Hospitality Services. In addition to all of this, I am trilingual. I speak fluent Spanish and a novice speaker in Italian.
Though I have been keeping busy the last few years, I make sure to make some time for leisure. In my free time, I enjoy reading, painting, being around my peers, or just watching a good show on television.
Throughout the years, I believe I gained the qualities and skills of professionalism, determination, communication, organization, and hard work. Though I have gained these qualities gradually throughout the years, there is still room for improvement and I plan on improving them with my time here at American University. To help me hone these skills, I take part in classes such as intro to law, philosophy, Italian, writing, and leadership development. Though different, all of these classes share the commonality of honing the different qualities and skills that I possess. Each class allows me to communicate whether in English or another language and to think on a more intellectual level than what I had done so in high school.
Upon graduation my goal is just like everyone else’s. To land their dream career. For me, law is something I am very passionate about and I am hoping to land a career as a prosecuting attorney. Using the skills that I have gained and will gain will help me in achieving my academic goal of landing my dream career.
