About Me


        Julie Appelstein is a first year student at American University pursuing a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies: Communication, Legal Institutions, Economics, and Government. She is currently enrolled in the SPA Leadership Program and serves as a Peer Note-taker for the Academic Support and Access Center. Also, Julie is a member of AU Dems, where she canvasses doors and participates in phone bank sessions.

        Her academic interests include public affairs, strategic communications, economics, campaign management, and constitutional law. Upon graduation, she aspires to pursue a career in public service where she can exercise her interests through groundbreaking policy work.

        Prior to her freshman year at American, Julie actively worked on presidential campaigns throughout the primary and general election seasons. At the campaign office in her town, she served as their Digital Lead during the primaries and their Canvass Captain during the general election. In addition, Julie held leadership roles within her school such as President of the National Honor Society, Vice President of Student Council, Representative of Key Club, Captain of Math Team, and Captain of the Varsity Girls Tennis Team.

        In her free time, Julie enjoys spending time outdoors, playing tennis, and dabbling in graphic design.
