Julie Appelstein is a second year student at American University pursuing a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies: Communication, Legal Institutions, Economics, and Government. She is currently enrolled in the SPA Leadership Program and serves as the Director of Activism for AU College Democrats. Also, Julie is a member of AU Ambassadors, where she gives tours and communicates with prospective students. Off campus, Julie interns on Capitol Hill in the Office of Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH).
Her academic interests include public affairs, strategic communications, economics, campaign management, and constitutional law. Upon graduation, she aspires to pursue a career in campaign management or public policy work.
Prior to her sophomore year at American, Julie actively worked on various democratic campaigns. This past summer, Julie worked as the Operations Manager for Naomi Andrews for Congress where she served as the main point person for the campaign. In the 2016 election season, Julie served as the Digital Lead of Salem, NH during the primaries and then went on to fill the role of Canvass Captain during the general election.
Before college, Julie held leadership roles within her high school such as President of the National Honor Society, Vice President of Student Council, Representative of Key Club, Captain of Math Team, and Captain of the Varsity Girls Tennis Team. In her free time, Julie enjoys spending time outdoors, playing tennis, and dabbling in graphic design.
