Hi, I’m John O’Connell, and I am a political science major at American University. I was born into a family in Melrose, Massachusetts (a suburb north of Boston) in which political conversations were commonplace and everyone was a participant. Due to this, politics is something I have felt passionate about since a young age, and something that I would like to transform from a dinner table conversation into a career.

I am a very outgoing individual, and have found that interacting with community members around me has only heightened my interest in civic engagement. I am also a very adaptable person, and take pride in being able to solve most any problem that is given to me. Primarily, I see myself as a leader. I enjoy taking charge of situations in order to get the job done, while also motivating and helping others to reach a common goal.

After graduating from college, I would like to earn a law degree to further my knowledge on the legislation that governs this nation and better understand how to affect change within it. I would also like to join the armed forces, as I believe serving this country is one of the most important things we as citizens can do. After that, I would like to work in Washington, D.C. as a lobbyist or on campaigns, and then eventually would like to run for political office back in my hometown of Melrose. I am dedicated to a life of civil service, and hope I can count on your vote someday.
