Hello! I am Kate B. Welcome to my ePortfolio page.
Originally from Michigan, I graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in History and a BA in Global and Area Studies/International Development in 2011. After completing my undergraduate degrees, I worked for the State of Michigan government as a grant manager where I managed economic development grants for two years before moving to Washington, DC in July 2013 to begin my masters degree at American University.
Currently, I am a second-year public history graduate student. I completed a practicum project with the White House Historical Association (WHHA) last spring, working with a fellow graduate student and the WHHA curatorial staff to create a digital exhibit on the Decatur House’s slave quarters. In fall 2014, I will begin a year-long internship with the Menokin Foundation and will help the Menokin curators interpret their historic sties and create digital educational materials
My research focuses include visual and material culture, American cultural History, Latin American history, and gender history.
