Background Guide- United Nations Environment Assembly, NHSMUN 2021
This is my first piece of published research, published in November 2020. Written during my position as Director of the United Nations Environment Assembly at the National High School Model United Nations conference, “Mitigating the Effects of Pollution on Marine Life” (pages 10-35) explores how ocean dumping, chemical pollution, plastic pollution, rising carbon emissions, and maritime transportation cause a decline in the biodiversity and resilience of the world’s ecosystems. It also evaluates the human health impact of marine pollution, recent solutions from around the world, the role of the UNEA in the problem, and different country stances on the issue.
Writing this piece was a lengthy process that spanned three months due to the extensive research and editing it required. It strengthened my research skills and gave me the opportunity to write a piece that would be a valuable resource to students across the world. The background guide serves as the primary research tool for delegates in the committee, so this experience provided me with valuable skills for making my writing accessible and comprehensive.
Article: “Climate Change Could Spell Disaster for Superfund Sites”
This is an article I wrote during my time as a Science & Solutions Intern with The Climate Reality Project, which was published on their blog. It addresses the impacts of climate change on Superfund sites and their implications for human health.
Personal Statement of Leadership
This is my closing personal statement of leadership for the School of Public Affairs Leadership Program, surrounding my definition of leadership, a description of leadership qualities, and what I think is the most important thing about leadership.
This report covers the day of service I organized in March 2021, called the Environmental Justice Day of Action, as my social action project for the School of Public Affairs Leadership Program. The report then summarizes the main findings from my Fall 2020 research that led to this project.
