Mission, Goals and Objectives
Mission
Nutrition-IQ (N-IQ) Summer Camp, in collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas County, aims to improve the diet quality of Littles (age 10+) to decrease their risk and development of teen obesity.
Goals
- Increase the ability Littles have to nourish themselves utilizing the life skill of food preparation.
- Improve nutrient density of Littles’ diets while decreasing intake of processed foods.
- Grow the level of confidence, independence and enjoyment Littles have with cooking simple, appealing, healthy and economical dishes.
Objectives
At the conclusion of N-IQ Summer Camp:
- Bigs will have kitchens with the essential equipment needed to cook with the Little during camp and on future occasions.
- Matches will have prepared at least two recipes together.
- Littles’ self-efficacy scores for food preparation methods will significantly improve.
- Littles will be able to identify local produce markets accepting EBT benefits.
- Littles’ knowledge scores for fruits and vegetables high in nutrients commonly lacking will significantly improve.
- Littles’ scores measuring attitude toward cooking will significantly improve.
- Matches will submit their first quarterly food or food preparation related goal using materials from the N-IQ website.
- Littles will increase consumption of home prepared food and decrease consumption of processed ready-made food.
