Before arriving at American, I knew right away that I needed to get active in research to accomplish my goals. During my first chemistry lecture, my professor, Dr. Fox, gave a short description of his research and opened the opportunity for students to work in the lab and help with his projects. After my second lecture, I went to his office hoping that a position would still be open. I exited his office with a position in his research lab after having been on campus for two weeks and I could not have been more ecstatic.
Of course studying science is atypical here at AU, but the opportunities that I have been given substantiate my decision to study here indefinitely. I have learned many laboratory techniques over the past few weeks of working in the lab that I can apply to my future career. I hope to continue working with my professors to gain more experience in pursuing a career in scientific research.
