3. Digital Archives: Historical/Exterior/Text

These two pictures are playground equipment that I saw in the apartments. Neither was being used, but placing playground equipment in urban environments is a very common thing. It is done to promote activity in youth and to give them something to do in their neighborhood to ultimately, stay off the streets. As a result, I came to the conclusion that this playground equipment of a slide and jungle jim were placed here for that reason. This furthermore reveals how this neighborhood could have been an area that had high involvement in the crack epidemic in the 1990’s District of Columbia.
