“The Duke and Duchess of Urbino, 1472” is an early Italian Renaissance painting by Pierro Della Francesca– a double portrait, which tells the story of of a dead wife and crazy military general who believed self-mutilation would fulfill his military destiny. Juliette Sarah Smith is a soon-to-be graduate of American University, studying political investigative/broadcast journalism and Italian Renaissance Art History. During her time as a student of communications, Juliette has covered beats such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Female Reproductive Healthcare, Italian Renaissance Art History and mental health at American University. Juliette will also be published in the Nation magazine’s national student journalism project in June, Vision 2020: election stories from the next generation.
