I chose to write mine on an issue that is unknown to many but is very important. The policy memo focuses mainly on the human rights abuses occurring inside Scorpion Prison in Egypt. In order to solve the issue I recommend basing Egypt&#8217;s legal system off of the justice system in Nordic countries.<\/p>\n<p>You can view the full paper <a href=\"http:\/\/edspace.american.edu\/sc2317a\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1039\/2017\/12\/Executive-Summary.docx\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Speech: reSISTERS<\/h2>\n<p>This is a speech whose original purpose is for my college writing class. But, it is so much more than that.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote this speech for every woman ever cat called, every woman ever shamed because her body isn\u2019t what society has declared beautiful, every woman ever blamed for sexual assault, every woman ever told she\u2019s too smart, every woman ever told she speaks too much, every woman ever abused, every woman ever put down, every woman ever told she needed to cover up, every woman ever called a \u201cfeminazi,\u201d every woman ever labeled nasty woman, every woman ever discriminated against, every woman ever told she couldn\u2019t hold public office, every woman ever silenced. Because now is our time, our time to speak up. And the best way to do that is through voting. Vote for someone to speak on your behalf in our government. Please share this and inspire other women and men to speak up and vote. Men of quality do not fear women of equality. Equal rights for all do not diminish the rights of others. Upon graduating from American University, I am looking to attend law school and eventually hold public office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On campus at American University, I am involved in a variety of groups. As a first year in the <strong>School of Public Affairs Leadership Program<\/strong> I am currently working on a group social action project focusing on the gaps in sexual assault resources available to survivors on campus with a concentration on college campuses in the Washington, D.C. area. I am also a member of the SPA Leadership steering committee where I serve as networking and alumni relations co-coordinator. Within this position, I run professionalism workshops, alumni reunions, monthly student-alumni networking events, and a mentorship program that works to directly connect leadership students with leadership alumni based in D.C.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Within this program I have developed keen public speaking skills, networked with faculty and students, and learned how to cultivate essential leadership skills.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Off campus I stay involved in D.C. and national organizations.\u00a0Since January 2018 I have been the <strong>Deputy Director of Research and Outreach<\/strong> at Blue Future. Within this capacity I a<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ssist in aggregating opportunities for young people to make a difference in the 2018 election. M<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">anage partnerships with political campaigns and built relationships with organizers is another major portion of my job. L<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">everage traditional organizing and communication skills to direct outreach strategies to\u00a0college campuses and local activist groups.\u00a0<\/span>Furthermore, I assist in developing our network and relationships with media outlets around the country as well as assist in Blue Futures overall media strategy. In addition, I help to manage partnerships with the media, pitch to the media, develop press releases, and other press materials. I also have the opportunity to work directly with Blue Future&#8217;s student fellows and in the traditional and social media space.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">More recently I had the honor of being voted in as the Co-<strong>President<\/strong> of the <strong>Women&#8217;s March<\/strong> Youth Empower Coalition where I work to advocate for legislation at the local, statewide, and national level that creates positive change for youth.\u00a0Youth Empower is the youth voice of Women&#8217;s March, aligned with the Unity Principles of Women&#8217;s March. We believe that the single most powerful act we can do is prepare young people with the skills and commitments to take action around causes that matter to them with courage, compassion and collaboration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This summer I began working as a\u00a0<strong>Journalist\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a0<strong>Millennial Politics,<\/strong> an online news resource steered toward millennials. Through this experience I developed research skills through creating profiles on Congressional candidates in districts that Tuft&#8217;s University has determined is a CIRCLE district, the districts where young people will have the highest potential to have direct and decisive impact on the 2018 midterm elections. Through such research I wrote articles on Democratic candidates in CIRCLE districts. Additionally, I was fortunate enough to interview a Congressional candidate, Tom Malinowski from New Jersey&#8217;s 7th Congressional district.<\/p>\n<p>Since April I have been working part-time as a <strong>Community Coordinator<\/strong>\u00a0for <strong>The Wing<\/strong> in Georgetown. The two main objectives of my work are to preform basic administrative duties and p<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">rovide warm, thoughtful, solution-oriented customer service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The numerous activities and groups that I have been involved in have influenced me into becoming a leader. During my following years at AU I intend to continue growing my knowledge and being an active member of my community.
