About Me

Hello, my name is Sofia Mucha and I am currently a student in the American University Class of 2020. I am pursuing academic majors in both Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics, and Government (CLEG) and Literature. I am a member of the School of Public Affairs Leadership Program at American University where I hope to further develop my skills in leadership and team-building to apply to a future career in the field of politics. This past school year, I was given the amazing opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant for the freshman leadership class within the program.

Upon graduation, I desire to apply my education to a career in the political realm. One of my true passions is working to protect the reproductive health rights of women, so my ultimate goal is to one day work with the non-profit political group, Planned Parenthood Action Fund. I have also been fortunate enough to participate in multiple internships, including the Maryland Democratic Coordinated Campaign in 2016, Congressman Jamie Raskin’s Democracy Summer Fellowship in 2017, and Nuchhi Currier’s campaign for delegate in Maryland’s District 16 this past June. I am currently an intern at the Woman’s National Democratic Club, where I will be working for the fall semester to promote and support Democratic candidates before the midterm election in November. My positions within these campaigns and organizations have allowed me to gain real experience with political organizing, democratic activism, and campaign management.

Through my attendance at American University, I have many invaluable resources available to expand my education beyond lectures and textbook readings. I plan on taking advantage of internships, the advice of knowledgeable professors, and the unique opportunities Washington, D.C. can offer a student. I hope to graduate not only with a high grade point average and a degree, but also with new knowledge about my field of study and a new outlook on the world.
