Staff: Telecommuting Best Practices

Some units and positions on campus offer Telecommuting as an option for staff when campus is closed. If you and your supervisor agree that your position can work from home, please consider the following two steps:

Step 1. Announce (via email) when you are available to your department and include the following information:

  • Tasks you would like to accomplish (or work on) during the day
  • Meeting details and/or other times you will be unavailable by phone
  • Any other pertinent information for the day

Step 2. At the end of the day, consider giving your supervisor a report of your activities. This may be harder when working on longer or complex projects, but transparency is always appreciated.
