In 1976, the United States Bicentennial Exposition on Science & Technology was held in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Part of the exhibition focused on the next 100 years of American progression, with Rockne Krebs’ solar and laser installation Sun Dog being the first work of art to be commissioned by the National Endowment for the Arts. Sun Dog Green is a commemorative poster of the installation, and it captures Krebs’ interest of the use of light within art, as well as the natural phenomena that the work shares a name with. Sun dogs are two colored patches of light that appear 22° to the left and right of the sun. As part of a series of gifts, individual posters were variously colored and donated to groups across America.

“I picked this piece because the colors really stood out to me. Upon further inspection I felt that the geometric shapes and lines provided a very guided viewing experience while still being organic in its nature.”
