What is suicidal ideation?

Suicidal ideation (also referred to as suicidal thoughts) are the thinking, consideration, and/or planning of suicide. These can be passive or active thoughts, but both should be taken seriously. 

Casually suicidal

A common myth is that suicidal ideations are consistent, grand, and very visible. However, many people do not consider casual mentions of suicide to be concerning. 

Suicidal ideation is important at any level. 

Common suicidal ideation/thoughts

By not talking about suicide, people may not realize that they are suicidal. Below are a list of common symptoms associated with suicidal ideation. It’s okay to ask for help from friends and family if you experience these. 

If you are concerned that a loved one may be experiencing suicial ideation in silence, look at the common signs.
