Commonplace: Gender Inclusive Bathrooms

This sign, states that the bathroom in question is “gender inclusive”, and explains that any gender can use it. Posted by Housing and Dining at AU, this sign shows the immense steps the school is taking to ensure that the students here are comfortable and feel like AU is a safe space. The second paragraph nicely explains that this bathroom is present in order for everyone to feel included, even if the standard bathrooms are gender-segregated. A gender inclusive bathroom creates a positive space for students who don’t feel comfortable, or aren’t sure, or don’t want to identify as a gender. Walking into a room shouldn’t automatically give someone a label, and gender-inclusive bathrooms make sure of that.
