“We know the fire awaits unbelievers
All of the sinners the same.
Girl, you and I will die unbelievers bound to the tracks of the train.
I’m not excited but should I be?
Is this the fate that half of the world has planned for me?
I know I love you and you love the sea
But what holy water contains a little drop, little drop for me.”
The following quote comes from a Vampire Weekend song titled: “Unbelievers.” The song itself is an incredibly upbeat melody, and contains a pounding and addictive drum line. The lyrics of the song reflect the opposite. I’ve loved this ear worm for a long time, but upon actually listening to the lyrics, I am not so sure how much I love the rhetoric of the lyrics. The negative connotations of the song totally contrast its melody, and I feel strongly that if more people listened to the lyrics, the song would lose popularity.
