About Me

Hello and welcome to my site! My name is Makinsey Hamblin. I am a Colorado native who is excited to be attending American University and living in our nation’s capital.

I am an alum of the Community Based Research Scholar Program at AU.  I really enjoyed working with D.C.’s communities and helping create positive change for the charities and people I was involved with. Research is one of my passions as I enjoy learning about the world around me. I am looking forward to doing more research that will have a tangible positive impact as I continue my time at American.

Public history is another passion of mine. I interned at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage where I did research for conference proposals. I have also taken classes during my college experience focused on public history. In one class I helped to design an exhibit on American University’s 2022 strike. In another, I completed an oral history project about Autistic Women’s life experiences and how it related to their diagnosis status.

Looking into the future my ultimate career goal is to be the first female director of the Smithsonian. Hopefully, after directing the Smithsonian Women’s History Museum. But right now I am focused on getting some work experience in my field before graduate school where I plan to get a dual degree in history and library sciences.
