About Me

Hello and welcome to my site! My name is Makinsey Hamblin. I am a Colorado native who is excited to be attending American University and living in our nation’s capital.

I am an alum of the Community Based Research Scholar Program at AU.  I really enjoyed working with D.C.’s communities and helping create positive change for the charities and people I was involved with. Research is one of my passions as I enjoy learning about the world around me. I am looking forward to doing more research that will have a tangible positive impact as I continue my time at American.

Museums are another passion of mine. I have volunteered at my local museum for a few summers. I love the people and the work and I can not wait to contribute to other organizations. I have also shadowed the director of the Colorado Children’s museum and interviewed the director of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  I completed a year-long research project examining high schoolers’ perceptions of virtual museums. Essentially I am a huge museum nerd, and I am eager to explore what can arguably be called the city of museums.

Looking into the future my ultimate career goal is to be the first female director of the Smithsonian. Hopefully, after directing the Smithsonian Women’s History Museum. But right now I am focused on making the most of my college experience and getting involved with organizations like the Student Historical Society.
