Pharmakon is the Undergraduate Journal for Philosophy & Religious Studies at American University. It has its roots in the Philosophy Honors Society, and was active until 2009. The journal was revived in 2024, hoping to capture the spirit of inquiry that drives all students and enriches academic communities. As a publication, it hopes to showcase and celebrate the insights and scholarly achievements of undergraduate scholarship, and facilitate discussions on the engaging and pertinent topics touched on within each issue.

Our Journal is Student-Run
This journal is run by an editorial board of American University students who draft and send out the call for papers, review submissions, and publish the finished work.
Pharmakon seeks out exceptional undergraduate work in Philosophy & Religious Studies from within the D.C, Maryland, and Virginia area. We accept all undergraduate work from local universities on topics in philosophy and religious studies. Papers submitted must be a minimum 2,500 words in length, and a maximum of 4,000 words.
