Hi I am Felicia, I am from Houston, Texas but from Chicago originally and I am now making Washington, D.C. home. I am majoring in Political Science with a concentration in American Government. I plan to go to Law School after my undergrad, I have been intrigued by the justice system and what works and what does not and want to learns the “whys” and all the ins and outs of it.

Aside from my academic goals I am passionate about the environment and women’s rights. “Going Green” has just always been a way of life for me, the practice of recycling was engraved in my mind at a young age. My senior year in high school the district cut down 12 out of the 15 Great Oaks across the street to build a cold food warehouse. I was infuriated to say the least, but knew that the building was necessary so I opted to focus my energy where I could realistically made an impact- by replanting the trees. Through about a three month process I met with multiple members of the administration and had over the phone meetings with district personnel. There was lots of red tape for me to jump through and eventually I hit a wall that could not be penetrated. But this experience of fighting for what I believed in only further ignited the fire I had to protect the earth; I am now in the Environmental Sustainability section of SPA Leadership and continue to search for ways to make my voice heard on the topic of Climate Change. My freshman year my group went into local DC public elementary schools to teach first and second graders about recycling; this past year I headstarted an individual project called “Green on a Budget”. This past semester I was an intern at the United Nations Foundation with Girl Up. Through this experience I was able to contribute to the larger mission of empowering young girls to be the next generation of leaders, while always emphasizing the importance of education.
