About: WordPress is an open source content management system, a bundle of code to help build and manage websites. With over 27% of websites running WordPress, it is the most popular content management system in the world. EdSpace is the name of American University’s WordPress multisite network, the way the university makes the WordPress code available to you on your own website.

For our class: We write on public websites in this class because such writing enables you to reach audiences far beyond just me, your professor. Additionally, digital writing more readily accommodates multimodality, than does a static document.

Help: In addition to the specific help topics outlined below, you can usually get far with a little googling.

  • The QuickStart guide contains illustrated step-by-step instructions for accomplishing many common actions in your EdSpace site.
  • AU subscribes to Lynda.com, which contains a wealth of video tutorials including many helpful WordPress lessons. (The Essential WordPress Training course is a great place to start.)
  • Ask questions in our WordPress channel on Slack.
  • Schedule one-on-one help with EdSpace manager, Lindsay Murphy.
