Throughout my life, I have been known as the enthusiastic, personable, outgoing “leader” type. In situations where a presentation needed to be made, I was often the unspoken volunteer. Expectations like these have never made me uncomfortable, particularly when I feel confident in whatever knowledge I need to convey in said presentations.
My time with my Issue Group has helped me further refine my skills, in addition to gaining other leadership skills like setting boundaries, networking, and generally administrative skills. I have been able to bring these new tools to other places at AU, including but not limited to being a Resident Assistant, serving as a volunteer with the Community Service Learning Program, and hopefully also in my upcoming role as a Teaching Assistant.
