The Health Heroes Mission:
Empower children through hands-on nutrition education, and provide opportunities to share this knowledge with their families, to form lifelong healthful habits, and to become advocates for nutrition within their communities.

Our Goals:
Health Heroes has many overarching goals to better the health and wellness of children, their parents, and the community at large.
Improve knowledge of the health benefits of fruits and vegetables among parents and children
Promote nutrition concepts through children within their local communities
Increase parental knowledge and parent-child communication regarding nutritional choices within the home
Strengthen knowledge of affordable healthy food options and convenient recipes for families in the community

Our Objectives:
-
During the 12 week program, 20 children will participate in at least 4 of the weeks
-
100% of the children who participated in the entire 12-week program will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of fruits and vegetables through verbal explanations and prepare “healthy” snacks
-
One year after the program, participants’ families will be consuming more servings of fruits and vegetables than prior to program participation
-
In 5 years time, the community at large will have a deeper understanding of why fruits and vegetables are important, and access will be easier
As mentioned in “Why Health Heroes?” there is a clear need for this program. Childhood obesity is a continual issue, and it’s time to take back the health of our children and ourselves. Our program gives children the opportunity to be change agents in their families and their communities, not to mention forming healthy habits themselves. In doing so, they are not only taking care of the “today” version of themselves, they are taking care of the “tomorrow” version, the “next year” version, and the “life-long” version.
Health Heroes provides an opportunity to gain real-life knowledge and skills necessary to do just that.
