Public radio newsrooms that have ramped up reporting on climate change are finding new ways to help their audiences understand the local impact of an urgent and complicated global news story.

Listeners have been tuning in more frequently and listening longer. In some markets, they’re hearing new voices and more beats in the music mix.

“People relied on what was always there for them in the beginning of the pandemic, which was comfort, solace, community, friendship,” said WXPN PD Bruce Warren.
