About the Host

I am Marissa Amara, a twenty-two-year-old Southern California native who came to the District of Columbia as a first-generation college student to pursue higher education. As I near completion of my master’s degree at American University in Strategic Communication, the next step integral to my educational and professional aspirations is gaining real-world experience. In the future, I plan to complete law school and pursue a career in impact legislation and political television news in California or Texas, and, ultimately, I wish to have my talk show.

I am an ambitious and pragmatic individual with interests that have always been associated with the law and justice. While at Howard University, I was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in Strategic and Legal Communication. As an undergraduate student, I reshaped my mind and pushed the envelope for success as a first-generation college student who transferred to Howard University from a community college. In addition to my academic work, I was an engaged member of the campus community. I participated in the S.H.O.W.T.I.M.E. Marching Band for two marching seasons as a flag girl. I worked at the Howard University Police Department in the Office of the Chief of Police. Additionally, I was a member of Lambda Alpha Epsilon, Criminal Justice Fraternity, and a Staff Writer for The Hilltop, which is Howard’s school newspaper. In Spring 2019, I was a congressional intern in the U.S. House of Representatives for Congresswoman Katie Porter (CA-45). In Summer 2019, I was a press intern for the United States Senate in Senator Cortez Masto’s office (D-NV). While at American University, I did a broad range of communication and administrative work as a graduate assistant. Currently, I am working from home due to the ongoing COVID-19 issue.
