Sally Owens

Sally Owens is one of the two main characters in Practical Magic – the other being her sister, Gillian. While both Sally and Gillian had an upbringing that was one in the same and maintain a rather close relationship, their methods of coping with their supernatural lifestyle and childhood filled with torment from other kids, differs. Furthermore, as the Owens sisters discover the love curse that lingers among their family lineage, their methods of coping differentiate even further. Sally is considered to be a “good girl,” living a classic, married life, with a lack of magic use and an emphasis on normality. As a method of coping with her supernatural fate, Sally tried to become as vehemently normal as possible. She fell in love, got married, had children and maintained what she felt was the right way to live. However, the curse that she so desperately tried to ignore, took over. After losing her husband, Sally and her children were forced back into the arms of her aunts and her desire of normality was lost. Now, her children, too, face the torment from neighborhood and community children, based on rumors that circle the town surrounding their magical capabilities. Sally resents this, but after reconnecting with her sister and aunts, slowly begins to accept and embrace her witchcraft.
