The leadership program at AU is very special to me because of how much it influences other areas of my life. The study of leadership is not restricted to the classroom. In fact, it is best studied outside of the classroom. I have found that the leadership program has allowed me to learn from leadership theory as well as from real-world leaders in professional spaces. Reflecting on this experience by biggest takeaway is that leadership is not given to anyone by a job title but rather is apparent in one’s actions.
Personally, I have noticed this shift my attitude towards leadership by not needing an excuse to lead. Leadership is something inherent in people and those who understand how to study and appreciate it can be leaders in any situation regardless of their position. This specifically in terms of servant leadership is my personal favorite understanding of leadership. Being able to take into account the needs of those around you and act in a way that positively affects them.
