Youth Marketing Connection – Marketing & Strategy Intern

Since May of 2023, I have had the opportunity to work at Youth Marketing Connection (YMC) as a marketing and strategy intern. YMC is a remote marketing firm that promotes brands to Gen-Z consumers. Through in-person experiential promotions and digital social media campaigns, the firm brings brands directly to college students, engaging with clothing, lifestyle, makeup, and nonprofit brands to bring their messages to the forefront of youth conversation.

Because of the firm’s small size, I am incredibly involved in the regular day-to-day of full-time team members. Some of the daily projects I am tasked with are recruitment for different experiential and digital campaigns, managing student ambassadors once hired, and tracking both on-campus and digital projects internally to present to clients after the event. Additionally, I have utilized my writing skills to take first passes on recruitment materials, email drafts to clients and students, and blog posts for clients to meet specific goals for my teams. I have also had the opportunity to travel for in-person events. I attended events at Howard, George Mason, and Virginia Commonwealth University during my fall term at YMC.

Because of the various tasks and campaigns I was assigned, I acquired many tangible skills from my time at YMC. First, I enhanced my writing skills within a marketing setting. Writing concisely and clearly for clients was necessary for my position, and I practiced this skill to better my writing for the future. Additionally, maintaining organization and utilizing time management on many different campaigns was essential to completing tasks on quick deadlines, and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to practice this. Finally, being able to effectively communicate, both digitally and verbally, through my day-to-day with YMC was crucial to my success there. I can carry these skills into any future job in communications.

My time at YMC has been both effective and valuable to my growth as a leader and future employee within the marketing world, and I am excited to continue my position within the firm in the spring semester!
