Keynote Session: Carbon Removal as a Public Service: The U.S. Government’s Role in Scaling the CDR Industry
Keynote Speaker: Erin Burns, Director, Carbon180
Synopsis: To ensure a livable climate for future generations, we must scale the carbon removal industry and remove billions of tons of legacy emissions from the atmosphere. The U.S government is uniquely positioned to help us get there. The government already funds public projects, from municipal trash and waste management to space exploration via NASA – and CDR should be no different. A massive institution with deep pockets, the U.S. government can catalyze this necessary industry by becoming the principal purchaser of CDR and setting high standards.
Erin Burns, the executive director at the first CDR non-profit Carbon180, will discuss why we must develop equitable CDR policy that’ll scale up the industry and pave a path to full decarbonization, moving from a net-zero to a net-negative emissions economy.
1:20-3:20pm EDT
