She began fighting for individuals from various backgrounds in high school by speaking to administrators, students, the Board of Education, and Jefferson County Public Schools Officials. At American University, Kaniya is the Co-President for the Black Student Union, the Director of AUSG Women’s Initiative, a member of the SPA Honors Program, a Teachers Assistant for SPA Leadership, a Peer Facilitator for the AUx Program, and a member of the AU Honors Program. In the future, Kaniya hopes to raise public awareness on various issues and change oppressive systems that are founded on microaggressions by becoming an Human Rights Lawyer. She also wants to reshape and change America’s democracy by removing white supremacist ideologies.
