Obesity: A New Perspective

After almost a semester’s worth of new information, I think I am going to appreciate this knowledge and put it to good use. I always thought of the obesity crisis as a backseat problem in America. I thought it wasn’t as important as climate change or poverty. Unknowingly, the obesity problem is so prevalent in every problem we face. It is ingrained in our culture. It can be found in any community in America, it is a factor in poverty, it is the root of America’s laziness. We never think of obesity as a complicated problem, we think it can be tackled easily, but in reality, we’re probably going to have to go wait many years before we see any real change. It is the Government’s fault for letting it get this far because now to reverse the damage, it will take longer to solve the issue.

I was always somewhat knowledgeable on the issues of obesity and its effects on the economy. Taking this class has allowed me to uncover the corruptness that exists within this realm. I feel now that I am more sensible in the things that I buy, I am now always intrigued to find out what exactly I am spending my money on, and where that money actually goes. I am generally a more educated buyer now.

I went from thinking that Obesity is a problem we will always face and that we can’t really do anything about it to thinking that obesity is a problem that will always exist, we just need to de-escalate it as quickly as possible. I went from thinking that obesity needs to decrease to now thinking that obesity just needs to be maintained. For the moment, we need to stop the growth, then we can worry about decreasing it.

There are so many underlying biological effects pertaining to obesity. I have gotten a new perspective on how cortisone levels affect a person’s health. I never looked it at in a way that our body process it, we generally just gauge food and emotions based on how we physically feel. The emotional level is a good way to psychologically analyze how we can tackle eating disorders and maintain healthy weight gain or loss.

So now I ask if we should look at correcting the current generation or prepare the future and have the next generation be the healthier one. I personally think we should focus on the next generation because it is easier to start fresh than to tackle a problem that is ingrained deep in the current culture.
