As the Logistics Coordinator for the AU Mock Trial Team, I encouraged our team to host an invitational tournament for the first time in five years! Due to COVID-19, this year’s college mock trial competitions are all being held virtually. While this has had its challenges, I believe it is also a unique and exciting opportunity to bring teams from across the country together for competitions since travel costs are no longer a concern.
I volunteered to serve as the Tournament Coordinator, which meant inviting teams and advertising our tournament to fill our 16 team field with the highest level of competition, coordinating with the teams attending, designing a simple, easy to use, virtual tournament format, recruiting and communicating with volunteer judges, and running the tournament throughout the weekend. The 2020 Wonk Invitational ran efficiently, on-time, and without major technical difficulties. We were thrilled to host a field of 16 teams with 11 States, the District of Columbia, and even Toronto Canada represented!
