About Me

My name is Theodora Mattei and I am a sophomore at American University majoring in International Studies with a concentration on Justice, Ethics, and Human Rights. I am minoring in Spanish Language with a certificate in Spanish Translation.

At American University I am an Olson Scholar conducting research on intimate partner violence through a discourse analysis to understand why intimate partner violence persists despite active efforts aimed at preventing this epidemic of gendered violence in Italy.

Passionate about women’s rights, I focus on such issues through my research and through my employment. I am an intern with EMILY’s List in the State and Local Campaigns Department where I focus heavily on candidate, race, and donor research in order to guarantee women’s political participation at all levels of U.S. government. I work as the Communications Director for Model G20, an inter-collegiate diplomacy group which simulates the annual G20 Leaders’ Summit. Through this program I work to grant participants the ability to tackle issues of justice and human rights through argumentation and drafting of communiqués and international treaties.

I have strong language skills in Italian and Spanish. Born in Rome, Italy I am a native Italian speaker and am also fluent in Spanish with advanced translation abilities.
