The influence of ocean current change

As the Janis’ blog says, although oceans play a huge role in the functioning of our planet, in the UN climate change negotiations, countries have largely ignored our oceans. The ocean will be more prominent than ever before, not only because climate change is hurting our ocean and the communities and marine life that rely on it, but also because the ocean can provide sustainable climate solutions and drive new momentum for climate action.

In the news ‘Arctic Ice Melt Is Changing Ocean Currents’, because of the rapid melting of sea ice, the main current in the Arctic is faster and more turbulent. Now part of the Arctic’s delicate environment, it’s full of freshwater, the result of man-made climate change. This freshwater is important in the Arctic, in part because it floats over warm saltwater, helping to protect sea ice from melting and thus helping to regulate the earth’s climate. The Arctic ocean current changes lead to the loss of sea ice and freshwater, thus affecting climate change.

This video studies the relationship between the ocean and climate change in a documentary way. It can help understand the complex and essential relationship between the ocean and the earth’s climate.

Mingyu Ma’s blog

  1. The first source I found is a documentary that was published in China in 2015. This video mainly records how Chinese people think about the problem of air pollution, especially the harm of smog.

PODCAST: What We Know About Air Pollution Around the World

2. This is a podcast of people interpreting air pollution and the terrible impact of it, also the 2 different kinds of air pollution in the world.

3. The news describes if air pollution, especially smog, will influence people in daily life that cause them to be depressed. The way to solve this problem is to reduce exhaust emission to protect the environment.

https://www.worldwildlife.org/threats/water-scarcity

In this article, the author explains why we still have rarely water to use, even though water covers 70% of our earth. I think it’s a very interesting topic to talk about.

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20170412-is-the-world-running-out-of-fresh-water

This article from BBC News talks about what will happen to us if there were no more fresh water on the earth. This author uses pathos-He gave us lots of pictures to let us being serious in this situation.

-The beginning of the Anthropocene has not always had an accurate time boundary. This article combines the anthropocene and geology to discuss the characteristics of the beginning.

-This video summarizes the best part of the 2010 National Geographic documentary “Aftermath.Population.Zero”. I was very surprised by the rhetoric used by the director and the content conveyed. We can understand the rules of the Anthropocene by explaining changes in the world, architecture, animals, environment, etc. after the disappearance of human beings.
