Grading Smarter, Not Harder: Winning Strategies for Grading Season

The last month of the semester tends to be taxing for students as well as for faculty. In this session, hear tips from colleagues on how to manage your grading load while keeping your students informed and on track to finish strong, while reducing stress for yourself and your students by submitting grades on time. Colleagues from the Registrar’s Office and Student Advising will share information about student perspectives. We also invite participants to bring their own tips and strategies for planning and completing their grading effectively.


From Odd Couple to Kindred Spirits: Stories of Innovation in Interdisciplinary Collaboration at AU

Tuesday, April 7 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM | SIS Butler Boardroom

Ever wondered about what it would be like to collaborate with someone from a completely different discipline, or how to go about starting the process? Hear stories from AU faculty who have built innovative and successful interdisciplinary partnerships as they share how they first connected, how their collaborations transformed their scholarship, and how bringing different perspectives together sparked new ideas and opportunities. The panel features Professor David Pike (CAS | Literature) & Professor Malini Ranganathan (SIS | Environment, Development and Health); and Professor Gustavo Ribeiro (Washington College of Law) & Professor Colin Saldanha (CAS | Neuroscience). Professor Nicole Angotti (CAS | Sociology; CFE Faculty Associate for Research/Grant Writing) will moderate the panel. This session is co-sponsored by the Office of Research.


How to Mentor Anyone in Academia – A Conversation with the Author

Friday, April 10 from 1:00 to 2:15 PM | MGSC 307 and Zoom

AU Faculty and graduate students are invited to join a campus watch party of How to Mentor Anyone in Academia, featuring author, Dr. Maria Wisdom, Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement, Duke University who will join live via Zoom to share insights on effective mentoring in higher education. This interactive session will highlight practical strategies for mentoring students in research, supporting faculty through promotion and tenure, and cultivating mentoring relationships that foster belonging and academic success. Faculty and graduate students are welcome to attend in person for the campus watch party or join virtually, creating multiple ways to participate in the conversation. This event comes at an important moment for AU as it strengthens a culture of mentoring and supports our transition as a newly designated R1 institution.
