Thanks to Mike for tipping us off that this Saturday, September 18th is the first annual International Observe the Moon Night!

Join viewers in over 40 countries; no special equipment is required, just a few moments of your time and your enthusiasm for “our nearest neighbor in the sky”!

And while we’re looking up, I thought I’d mention that you can view the International Space Station as it passes across your location with your bare eyes. I was lucky enough to see it fly across the Pasadena sky last Tuesday around 7pm and it was COOL. I was amazed at how fast that thing moves!

Check out the NASA website for the ISS schedule and download an applet that allows you to calculate the best viewing times for your current location!
