About Me

Simone Laws

Driven. Passionate. Open-Minded.

My name is Simone Laws and I am a freshman studying International Studies at American University (AU) in Washington DC. I am originally from Eugene, Oregon but home for me resides in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Nairobi, Kenya where I spent the last six years of my life. I have a passion for learning and meeting new people from around the world. I view my unique upbringing as a privilege as well as opportunity to learn about embracing societal and cultural differences. Getting out of my comfort zone by moving abroad and being exposed to a completely new and exciting environment helped me to break out of my shell and become more open-minded to vastly different parts of the world. Being exposed to such diverse, interesting and different cultures captivated my attention immediately, hence my love for travel. This has been reflected in my involvement at my university as I am an AU diplomat. My role in this position presents the opportunity to advocate for international students or US global nomads such as myself, to attend AU which cultivates such a welcoming, encouraging environment. Some of my favourite countries I have traveled to are:

  • Vietnam
  • Nepal
  • Cambodia
  • South Africa
  • Costa Rica
