Mission Statement
Healthy Eating Equals Healthy Families will focus on encouraging healthier eating habits among middle-aged Hispanic adults, 36-55 years old, in the Coachella Valley through participating in a variety of primary intervention activities to reduce their (and their family’s) risk of developing chronic health problems.
Goals
- Hispanic adults in the Coachella Valley will learn how to eat healthy foods without changing their cultural food preferences.
- Families of Hispanic adults participating in the program will develop healthier eating habits, therefore improving their overall health.
- Hispanic families will be able to incorporate fun exercise routines into their daily lives, therefore reducing their risk of developing health problems related to sedentarism.
Objectives
- By the end of the program, participants will have received at least 8 nutrition education sessions.
- By the first session, 80% of participants will be able to identify at least one of their (and/or their family’s) risk of developing chronic diseases.
- By the middle of the program, each participant will have identified at least one family member or friend who will be participating with them in making behavioral changes.
- By August 2022, at least 40% of those who had existing health conditions will have an “improved” health assessment as determined by their doctor.
- By 2025, the rate of obese Hispanics in Coachella Valley will have dropped by at least 5%.
