What is RED-S?

Relative energy deficiency in sport. RED-S occurs when energy output (training) is greater than energy input (diet), causing a state in which the body cannot support optimal fitness and overall health. This imbalance can effect both short- and long-term health and athletic performance.

Training

We know that the harder we train, the faster we get! BUT, as our training load increases, our energy (calorie) needs also increase!

To maintain energy balance, performance and health, we must alter our energy intake (calories) as our energy output (training) increases

Nutrition

Proper nutrition and fueling practices are as, if not more, important as training!

What we eat, how much we eat, and when we eat it all contribute to health and success. The Nourished Performance program will teach you not only the basics of Sports Nutrition, but also how to mix and match macronutrients to create perfect pre- and post-exercise meals!

Recovery

Giving our bodies proper recovery ensures that we refill our depleted energy stores, repair damaged muscles, and gets us ready for our next hard training session.

Did you know that there is a certain ratio of carbohydrate to protein that enhances recovery?

RED-S is characterized by a state of perpetual low energy availability.

This can lead to a number of health issues. At Nourished Performance, we seek to educate young athletes about these health risks to promote both long and short-term health and athletic success

Young athletes are particularly susceptible to RED-S due to peer and societal pressure. Our program is designed to educate young athletes about the importance of fueling their bodies for success. To learn more about the program, visit our Program page
